Useful uses of Coffee grounds

While many people are familiar with using coffee grounds to remove the smell of garlic on their hands, few are aware of other ways that they can be used around the home.

According to BriteNest (professional house cleaners), coffee grounds can be utilized in the following ways to make housework easier:

Cleaning saucepans – coffee grounds are extremely effective to use as a scourer to remove grease and stains. Their rough texture scrubs areas clean, then all that is needed is to rinse the grounds off to have a shiny saucepan!

Smelly shoes– by placing dry coffee grounds in a sock or stocking, unwanted smells can be removed, and shoes and trainers deodorized

Freezer smells – if there are numerous food smells in the freezer, re-use a margarine container and half fill this with coffee grounds. Pierce the lid with some holes so that the coffee grounds can absorb any odors, and they will disappear.

Onion and garlic odors – rub hands with coffee grounds after peeling and chopping onions and garlic. Doing this exfoliates the skin and make the smells disappear. By keeping a container of grounds near the sink, they will always be closeby for immediate use. Apply moisturizer afterward to keep hands soft and moist.

Unblocking drains– after finishing a pot of coffee, pour the remains down the sink. Follow up with three drops of dishwashing liquid and a kettle of boiling water, to clear any blockages and keep the drains clear.

Compost – if there is a compost bin in use, nitrogen is needed to activate the compost and to encourage healthy growth in garden Adding coffee grounds and mixing these through the compost is an easy way of achieving healthy compost and plants.

Fertilizing roses– as well as azaleas, camellias, evergreens and all acid-loving Coffee grounds are packed full of nitrogen and other nutrients to assist plants to grow. Spread the coffee grounds around the plants that need fertilizing and a noticeable improvement will soon be seen.
